Recognizing the importance of security and accountability in agricultural commodities management, the Indian Commodities Corporation (ICC) developed SURAKSHA. This geo-fencing-tracked staff management and attendance application is designed to meet the unique needs of rural India's blue-collar workforce in the collateral management sector.

Project Overview

ICC Suraksha aims to enhance security and accountability in agricultural commodities management by providing a reliable staff management solution. The app ensures that employees' entry and exit are tracked efficiently while promoting accountability during duty hours.

Goal

ICC faced significant challenges related to theft and security management within their collateral management operations. They needed a solution that would effectively track employees' movements and ensure their accountability during work hours. The primary hurdle was designing an accessible solution for a low-literacy, rural community in the remote interiors of India.

Challenge

To address these challenges, ICC developed a holistic solution integrating staff management, attendance tracking, and geo-fencing capabilities. The app was crafted to operate seamlessly on older Android models, aligning with the technological environment in rural India. The interface was designed to be simple and intuitive, with multi-language support to enhance accessibility for individuals with low digital literacy. This ensures that the app is user-friendly and compliant with WCAG 2.1 AA standards, making it easy for the intended audience to use.

Solution

I assisted in designing the SURAKSHA mobile app for agriculture warehousing, simplifying complex requirements for non-technical users and ensuring WCAG 2.1 AA compliance. My contributions included developing wireframes and high-fidelity prototypes for user testing and feedback. I ensured the app met accessibility standards by selecting appropriate colors and font sizes, making it compatible with older devices and simpler smartphones, and incorporating multi-language support.

My Role

Concept Mapping

I organized the requirements and information through hand sketches to define the app's flow and structure.

This involved grouping related screens, defining connections, and iterating on the information architecture. This process helped visualize user pathways, identify navigation elements, and refine the overall user experience.

Creating hand sketches laid the foundation for decision-making throughout the design process, ensuring the final product met user needs and aligned with project goals.
